The National Mission on Edible Oils – Oil Palm (NMEO-OP) is a centrally sponsored scheme launched in 2021 by the Government of India. It increases the domestic production of edible oils, particularly palm oil. The mission aims to achieve self-sufficiency in edible oil production by 2030.
NMEO-OP is being implemented by the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare. The scheme provides incentives to farmers to grow oil palm trees. It also promotes the development of oil palm processing mills and other infrastructure.
The mission is still in its early stages, but it has the potential to significantly reduce India’s dependence on imported edible oils
